Fasting of any kind is contraindicated for: Stage IV cancer patients in cachexia; patients who are severely underweight; pregnant women and women who are exclusively breastfeeding or where breastmilk is the primary source of calories; people with liver or kidney disease; people with eating disorders; people taking medications for diabetes or hypertension should not do any form of fasting.

Anyone who is medically fragile, has signs of active infection, is over 70 or under 18 should consult a trusted physician before undertaking any major change in diet.
